Cube Stories are picture stories that can be written and enjoyed by kids of all ages. Each page is a picture containing text and a photo. They are viewed with the iPhone's Photos app as slide shows, usually with the Cube transition selected.
CubeStory Writer provides an easy way to build the pages of the story, if you are involved in a childs education it can be a valuable tool to help nurture their creativity and comprehension.
**** Field trips, use Cube Stories to build a story during the trip or just take pictures during the trip and work with the children to write the story when back in the classroom.
***** Comprehension testing, select a transition time for a Cube Story that you have written, let the child watch the story, then see how well they can explain it or answer certain questions.
***** Creativity, Give a child a group of pictures and have them write a Cube Story, you just might discover a budding novelist.
***** Parents, Be creative and write some stories for your kids, include them in the story and they'll love it!
Cube Stories aren't only for children, they are a great way to document any trip or event and make your slide shows even more interesting. You can also use the app any time you need some text with a photo.
You can use either your devices camera or existing photos to build your pages. To get images from the web try bing.com image search with Safari, when you find an image you like just tap and hold, you will be given the option to save it.
Getting started... Tap the text area to enter text, tap the image area to select an image. Tap the bottom bar to change the image source between Photos or Camera.
When you launch Cube Story Writer the first thing to do is enter or accept the title for the story you are working on and tap Set Title. Next, enter text and an image for the page. Save Page when finished. As you write your story the pages are saved in Camera Roll. If you use iPhoto to sync your photos, the best way to organize your Cube Stories is to import each group of pages as an Event, then sync your iPhone.
Tips...
When you first launch CubeStory Writer there will be a line of text, 'Enter your story title here'. Replace that text with your story title then tap the top bar to set the title. You can now start writing the story. The next time you launch the app the story title will be displayed. If you are continuing with the same story just tap the top bar to set the title, if you are starting a new story enter the new title and tap the top bar. NOTE, if your device has multitasking you will need to close the app on the multitask bar then re-open it in order to change your story title.
You can save the page without dismissing the keyboard but if you want to dismiss the keyboard so you can view the full page just tap the picture area then tap Cancel in the Photo Albums or Camera.
When viewing your story with Photos Slide Show the pages are displayed in the order that they were created. If you want to replace one of your earlier pages it is possible to re-arrange the order with iPhoto. Import the pages to an iPhoto Event, select 'View, Titles' and 'View, Sort Photos, By Title, Ascending' then rename the pages with sequential numbers in the order you want them displayed. Close iPhotos and sync your device.
